1. He & Mary Play
He & Mary
He & Mary

Hello. You Know,
If you go – I won’t be waiting -
for long. You better make sure we’re done.

Okay, Please stay. I know, my mind keeps changing.
I blame my parents if anyone.

As he explained this to me.
It was easy to see,
That he wanted to make sure he’s ready…

Oh!
He and Mary go round again
Delusion bound they’re up then down
She says so long...
Hello!
Reunited like long lost friends.
We stand aside and watch the ride
as they go round again.

Pretend to mend.
I commend you attempt at listening.
But I know, you only hear what you want.
Forget our duet.
Like roulette, is a space away from missing big.
Please don’t leave - give it one more shot.

As he explained this to me.
It was easy to see,
That he wanted a love that was steady

She’s been waiting
He’s debating
Guess they can’t be happy as friends
She say’s “Maybe”
He says “We’ll see”
We all know that once they start they can’t end

Notes
It's always the thought of what we might be missing that keeps us from commiting to what we have right in front of us. This is a fact that any long lasting relationship has to deal with and endure.

In this song, Tommy & Mary experience first hand how complicated, unpredictable and exhausting the early stages of comitment can be.

2. Mr. Hughes Come Home Play
Mr. Hughes Come Home
Mr. Hughes Come Home

“I hang on every word you say.”
“And fall for everything you do,”
That’s what she wrote and then she threw it away.

For now she’ll dance the night away,
As the radio floods her room.
Maybe she’ll tell him another day….

About all of her
Hoping
And coping
The trial and error
And terror of not finding love

She’s no - Heroes to guide her
Won’t stand a chance alone
Teenage hope is lost without you
Mr. Hughes come home…

He puts the yearbook back on the shelf
And he whispers to himself
“She’ll never fall for a guy like me”.

Tonight he’ll plan out what he’d say,
If her glance should ever come his way
Hoping she might get a last chance to see…..

That his head’s full of
Dreaming
And scheming
Of uncompromising
The prize that he sees in her heart

He’s no - Heroes to guide him
Won’t stand a chance alone
Teenage hope is lost without you
Mr. Hughes come home…

These times - they blind and scatter
An adolescent mind
Hopelessness is running rampid
Take me to the time….

Where underdogs flourished
And best friends were nourished
By library weekend affair

And homecoming dances bred
Mismatched romances
Transcending perception and care

We’ve no - Heroes to guide us
Won’t stand a chance alone
All our hope is riding on you
Mr. Hughes come home…

You’re the - hero to guide us
Shermer hasn’t been outgrown
Consider this your invitation
We’ll wait for you – come home

Notes
All the successes & faliures of life can be traced to how prepared or unprepared we feel to face the struggles & challenges we find along our way. Adolesence seems to be the ultimate proving ground for this reality.

There was time when entertainment embraced the reponsibility of helping kids make better, wiser decissions. A time when the process of "growing up" was portrayed with a realism that exposed the struggles, but also highlighted & encouraged the hope that we all go through them, and with some persistance can make it out on the other end - stronger - and no worse for the wear.

This song is the story of looking for that hope, and one(1) of the heros that made it all so real.

3. Prayer Play
Prayer
Prayer

And now I lay me down to sleep
And I pray the Lord my soul to keep – but then
It dawns on me, you’ve heard this all before
“I want”, I need” – “Please bless..” and further more

I take a moment for the words I find
And restart the conversation with just us in mind and the,
Top three things I need tonight;

Please
Nothing less than I require
Nothing more than what I need
But whatever you do - don’t leave.

The day’s been rough, and the hurt’s been deep,
There aint much left of that soul to keep
Tonight I’m hoping that you’re hearing what I say
Formalities no longer in the way
“And I know tomorrow is another day,
and I shouldn’t worry ‘bout the things that may” but I
Need your peace to ease my mind

Please
Nothing less than I require
Nothing more than what I need
But whatever you do - don’t leave.

Whatever my lot, thou has tought me to say,
it is well, it is well - with my soul

Please
Nothing less than I require
Nothing more than what I need
But whatever you do - don’t leave.

Bridge Lyrics By Horatio Spafford
Notes
This song is a look at our human condition, and how we've been programed by religion to feel distant and often mindless during prayer.

Throughout the story of the song, both Tommy & Mary come to some realizations about not only the process of prayer, but the real importance of their needs before the Lord.

The bridge of the song is actually the second half of the chorus from the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul".

"It Is Well With My Soul" is a very influential hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss.

This hymn was written after several traumatic events in Spafford’s life. The first was the death of his only son in 1871, shortly followed by the great Chicago Fire which ruined him financially (he had been a successful lawyer). Then in 1873, he had planned to travel to Europe with his family on the S.S. Ville Du Havre, but sent the family ahead while he was delayed on business. While crossing the Atlantic, the ship sank rapidly after a collision with another ship, and all four of Spafford's daughters died. His wife Anna survived and sent him the now famous telegram, "Saved alone." Shortly afterwards, as Spafford traveled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write these words as his ship passed near where his daughters had died.

The much anticipated follow up to SUPER HAPPY FAMILY WISH RECORD - ULTRA CATCHY ATOMIC POP INTERLUDE(Volume I), delivers a handfull of audio gems by the heavy weight champions of suburbanized "pop 'n roll" -JoyFocus.

Featuring the single "Mr. Hughes" Come Home from the upcoming film "Don't You Forget About Me - the movie", this record marks the begining of the band's concept driven material that will work, over the course of the next few albums, to tell the story of Tommy & Mary and the world they live in.

Part pop music explosion, part audio novella, ULTRA CATCHY ATOMIC POP INTERLUDE is everything you'd expect in both substance & performance from the suburban soaked, family fueled minds of JoyFocus.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

"JoyFocus "Mr Hughes Come Home" - One of Chicago's finest, JoyFocus unleash their new music on the EP "Ultra Catchy Atomic Pop Interlude Volume 1", and this outstanding cut is wonderfully produced and perfectly sung! Don't be surprised if this lands on a ton of iPods, since their music has influences all over the place, and they pull it off with perfection. You can tell that this band loves great music, because that is that is the kind of music that JoyFocus makes! "

- popbang radio

JoyFocus is a power rock due from Wheaton, IL, consisting of Holly Joy and Rikk Currence. Dancing around the edge of contemporary Christian rock, JoyFocus displays powerfully positive messages in their songs.

Ultra Catchy Atomic Pop Interlude - Volume 1 consists of three songs. Rikk Currence shares vocals with Holly Joy on He & Mary. Their voices are in perfect counterpoint to each other, she with a child-like quality reminiscent of Cyndi Lauper, circa-1985; he with a mellow baritone. On Mr. Hughes Comes Home and Prayer the lead is all Holly Joy. Her enigmatic sound wraps itself in the music like a trusted friend, particularly when Currence joins in on harmony in Prayer.

This is just a small sample, but it's obvious that JoyFocus has a certain spark or chemistry that turns the connection of notes and words into something more than just the song. They have a full length release due in the Fall of 2008, and I will be excited to see what that brings.

Hairspay - A Tribute To 80's Power Ballads
Sister Christian Play
Sister Christian
Notes
Sister Christian was written and sung by the band's drummer, Kelly Keagy, for his sister. It was the band's biggest hit, going up to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. Obviously this is a classic song. Interesting fact, the lyric, "You're motoring. What's your price for flight? In finding Mr. Right?" is the subject of much debate. In aviation, particularly with large propeller powered airplanes, "motoring" is the term used while awaiting takeoff clearance. From these origins, "motoring" carried over to jet aircraft during the transition phase between props to jets when the first jets were being held on the ground awaiting takeoff clearance. Sister Christian is motoring, she's "on hold" with her date relative to whether she will take flight with him. One of the photo releases depicts a propeller airplane with nose art spelling out "Sister Christian" as the name of the airplane.

Info
So, when we were asked to contribute to this tribute record, we really thought long & hard about which "power ballad" we wanted to tackle.

After all, the 80's gave us many to choose from, and we didn't want to just pick one at random. After a little diliberation, we chose "Sister Christian" the power ballad by the hard rock band Night Ranger, which was first released on their album Midnight Madness.

We love this song, and our good friend and JoyFocus extended family member, Ray Kainz, delivers an amazing guitar solo on our version - very true to the playing of Brad Gillis & Jeff Watson on the original.

This is yet another compilation/tribute album brought to you by the Sharkbite Records Label.

Notes
Formed in 1984, the band soon grew a local following. They quickly recorded their first demo songs, many of which would be released only much later in their careers. The band's first single, "Fingers On It," was featured in the 1986 movie Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, however, the song was not available commercially until 1994.

By 1989, Enuff Z'Nuff had released their first major label offering, a self-titled debut album on Atco Records, with founding members Donnie Vie and Chip Z'Nuff being joined by guitarist Derek Frigo and drummer Vikki Foxx. They had two minor hits that year with the psychedelic-flavored pop rock songs "New Thing" and "Fly High Michelle," which both received steady airplay on MTV. The band's heavy glam rock appearance in their videos was later parodied on MTV's Beavis & Butthead.

For their follow-up album, 1991's Strength, the band tried to tone-down their glam image. It was released in 1991 to strong reviews, including Rolling Stone magazine calling the group "The hot band of the year." There were videos for the singles "Mother's Eyes" and "Baby Loves You," as well as an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. This follow-up album did not sell nearly as well as their first.

The band filed bankruptcy and left Atco Records, but soon after was picked up by Clive Davis' Arista Records label for their 1993 album Animals With Human Intelligence. This release, much like "Strength," received some critical acclaim, but ultimately failed commercially. Soon before the album's release, drummer Vikki Foxx quit the band to join Vince Neil's band. He was soon replaced by Ricky Parent. After Enuff Z'Nuff was dropped from Arista, guitarist Derek Frigo left the band. Despite these setbacks, the band has continued touring and recording up until the present, releasing albums on several indie labels, and finding a solid fanbase overseas. The band had also made regular appearances in the mid-90's through 2005 on the Howard Stern Radio Show.

Lead singer and songwriter Donnie Vie stopped touring with the group in 2002 to embark upon a solo career. Enuff Z'Nuff continued to tour in his absence as a power trio with their lead guitarist Johnny Monaco also serving as the band's frontman. In 2004, after battling substance abuse, former lead-guitarist, [http://www.sleazeroxx.com/rip/derekfrigo.shtml Derek Frigo lost his life at the young age of 36. Also, long time drummer, Ricky Parent, lost his long-time battle with cancer in October of 2007. Ricky had been with the band for approximately 13 years. Both Derek and Ricky have been, and continue to be, greatly missed by both, the fans and the band. Later that year, existing original members, Chip and Donnie, reconvened to shoot a pilot for VH1's reality based show, Bands On The Run. The show's pilot episode never aired. However, during that time, the re-united band held recording sessions for their 13th studio album tentatively titled "Lost In Vegas." No estimated release date for the record has been revealed. Recently, bassist Chip Z'Nuff has performed worldwide with Adler's Appetite, which features former Guns N' Roses drummer Steven Adler.

According to Donnie Vie's myspace site, there is a possibility that he, along with Chip Z'Nuff, will once again be performing live as a member of Enuff Z'Nuff in early 2008. No further information has been revealed.

Being from Illinois, it's a rule that if you are ever asked to participate in a tribute album to other artists who are also from Illinois, you must participate. It helps that this band is one of our favorites! Being avid rule followers, we did, and coverd "These Daze" for this Enuff 'Znuff tribute album for Dreamland Discs.

That 70's Song
Credits
Cheap Trick has created a substantial fan base through a hard-edged yet melodic pop sound that combines the tunefulness of The Beatles with the speed and energy of punk rock. Their biggest hits to date include "Surrender", "I Want You to Want Me", "Dream Police", "Voices", "Stop This Game", "If You Want My Love", "Don't Be Cruel" (a cover of Elvis Presley's hit), "Ghost Town", and "The Flame." Cheap Trick also performed the theme song "In The Street" for That '70s Show from the second season onward and the theme song "Baby Muggles" for the Colbert Report. Bands citing Cheap Trick as an influence include Guns n' Roses, Nirvana, The Datsuns, Everclear, Extreme, Fountains of Wayne, and Smashing Pumpkins, among others.

Cheap Trick continues to tour with the original lineup, and their most recent release, Rockford, has gained critical acclaim. They were honored in October 2007 by the Chicago Chapter of NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) for their contributions to the music industry, including 20 million records sold, 29 movie soundtracks, and 40 gold and platinum recording awards.
Info
We were very fortunate to have been contacted by Shark Bite Records and asked to contribute to this tribute compilation to one our favorite bands of all time - Cheap Trick.

By the time we were involved with the project, many of the "staple" Cheap Trick songs were already taken by other artisits. The Label recomended we try "That 70's Song / In The Street" as a nod to some of Cheap Trick's more recent material.

Here is some info on the song "In the streets";

The song "In the Street", is originally by Alex Chilton and Chris Bell of the band Big Star. It was initially sung by Todd Griffin, but beginning with the second season of the show (That 70's Show), the song was performed by the band Cheap Trick, whose version is referred to as "That '70s Song (In the Street)". In a Rolling Stone magazine article in 2000, Chilton thought it was ironic that he is paid $70 in royalties each time the song is aired !

Enjoy!

SUPER HAPPY FAMILY WISH RECORD, the debut release from JoyFocus, is a pop rock tour de force full of guitar driven, melody soaked pop songs that stick to your ears and rattle around in your head for hours. The equivalent of audio heroine, this record will suck you into pop rock addiction and then leave you begging for more.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

One of the best power pop songs in the nation (Hello).
This band is on its way”
- Chicago Music Showcase -

“Instant Anything is an instant hit! This is a great band with
a Garbage type feel. Very polished and radio ready.”
- Taylor Made Entertainment -

“The irresistible power pop/rock of JoyFocus will hook you!
Spine-tingling female vocals wrapped around rocking guitars
and a solid rhythm section. Sounds like ABBA meets
REO Speedwagon.”
- Home Pride Chicago -

“Catchy music from a 3 piece band that understands
catchy. They manage to do all that top 40 stuff without the
excesses of radio pop. Great chorus (Undone), plus a welcome
return to guitars in this music genre.”
- Skinny Robbie’s House of Pop -

“Delectable infectious anthem to the radio (Instant
Anything)! This is very good stuff from a Chicago band that
has the common sense to be fans of Cheap Trick, Enuff Z’
Nuff, and the Marvelous 3.”
- Bang Shang A Lang - MP3.com

“If there is any justice in the world, JoyFocus will be hugely
successful. They rock and have a sound that blows me
away!”
- Apple Pie Radio -

“An unusual three-piece band, as two musicians play
everything while the third handles all the vocals. Super
Happy Family Wish Record sounds like the $5.99 special
at Lee Ho Fook’s, but the band’s image is a hybrid of cartoon
imagery and professional wrestling. You probably
wouldn’t know what to expect when if you saw the record
in the store, but Joy Focus covers a few bases anyway.
“Hello” and “Undone” are nice showcases for Joy’s vocals,
which can sound almost teen-pop on some tracks yet sultry
on others. As for the music, Rikk Currence and Ray
Kainz can knock out some infectious pop (like the bouncy
“Two Days”) or play funkmaster (“Count Me Out”) as the
need arises. Despite the sometimes dense production, I
like the way the band plays around with arrangements and
vocal layering; it gives each of the seven tracks its own
personality. “
Bill Holmes - Cosmik Debris Magazine

“Holly Joy heads up this group and brings her own sultry
brand of Power Pop to her tunes. The style of the song
stays loyal to all that has gone before in this field, offering
much “Joy”(excuse the pun), happiness and dance into
your life. The lady can clearly sing with confidence, good
diction, and clarity, and delivers this well constructed vocal
with consummate ease.”
